International cooperation in financial investigations – formation of the basic elements

The article analyzes the process of formation of an international system for combating money laundering and terrorist financing (hereinafter – AML/CFT). In the context of protecting the integrity of the international financial system, the author substantiates his own vision of the term «financial investigations», highlights the norms of law in international legal treaties, which, in his opinion, formed the world community's awareness of the peculiarities of the problem of money laundering, laid the foundations of the international AML/CFT system and determined the directions of international cooperation in this field.
